How easily could you do Esther’s homework?
Think so? We’ll see.
Two samples:
This one is from last week:
Put the pictures in order. Label them first, next, then, and last. Okay. Simple, right? Check this.

And this one was yesterday’s:
Write the first letter for the word that names the picture. There were 9 of them. Okay, the first two were easy.

And then there was this:

???
Um. What???
Tom says that I am making it more complicated than it is. So I asked him what order he thought the pictures should go in. His answer was different than mine, which was different than Esther’s.
(The big discrepancy is the one where the family is sitting at the table, no dinner, just cups and a bowl of fruit. You got that, right?) Is there really a specific, obvious place for this picture in the story?? One that a six-year-old should easily recognize??
Three out of four people in our family answered differently. …I wonder what Jared would say- hold on, let me ask him.
One minute later. Well, Jared understood the directions much quicker than I expected. And- he came up with a completely new, fourth answer. No kidding. (And there was no coaching here. I actually expected a different answer from him.)
The things they send home.
What are your answers?
To make things simple, label the pictures using letters. For instance, if you think the pictures are presented in the correct order, you would say: 1. A, 2. B, 3. C, 4. D. And don’t forget to share what you think that thing is from yesterday’s homework.
The first person who gets this right (who answers the same as Esther- after all, she is the professional first grader!) will get some recognition. (Hey, what did you think you were going to get? A car dinousaur toy? (that’s what Jared says is a cool prize) Sheesh.)
