Jared said he made it this morning before anyone else got up- a Harry Potter sock puppet!

He’s starting to become a lot like his big sister.   :)

Jared “practicing for his Jog-a-Thon”

Super Jared to the Rescue!

Superheroes are cool, so that’s what Jared wanted for his party this year.

Here is his comic strip style invitation (I got the idea from someone online):

I made capes out of plastic tablecloths (8 capes for a dollar!) and velcro before the party.   At the party, I had symbols (a star, lightning bolt, and a shield) for the kids to decorate, then used spray adhesive (for scrapbooking) to stick them to the capes.  I had also made masks, but only a few kids wore them.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of the game we played.  First the kids hit a poster of super villains with spidey frisbees, then they sprayed them with spidey webs (silly string).

The cake was a city-scape with heroes & villains fighting all over it.  Jared had requested lemon, strawberry, and orange flavored cake.  Lemon & strawberry I just made from cake mix.  But I’d never seen  orange cake mix!  lol  So, I used yellow cake mix, and just added a packet of orange kool-aid.  It was pretty good!  Anyway, here’s the cake:

Jared says that his favorite part was playing with his friends.  He’s a really sweet kid.

On his birthday, Jared kept saying that he wasn’t five yet, because it wasn’t his birthday party yet.  Now I think he’s convinced.  :)

1st Day of School

Yesterday was a really big day for our family.  Esther started 2nd grade at a new school, Jared started Kindergarten, and Naomi turned 1 month old!

First, we all took Esther to Ms. Garvey’s class.  Esther already really likes her.

Then, a few hours later, we took Jared to Mrs. Langford’s class and hung around a while.  I don’t really think he needed us to.  He didn’t pay any attention to us; he was so engrossed in his teacher and making sure he was doing what he was supposed to. But it was fun to be there and observe Jared’s first hour of school.

Both the kids came home really happy.  They couldn’t wait to go to school again this morning.  Jared is so excited to have homework.  This afternoon, he bugged me until I helped him start it.  I hope it’ll last.  :)

Loof Lirpa! Update

On Sunday, I finally got the videos I’ve been taking on the camera onto the computer (thanks to half the family working on it, lol).  So, a month and a half later, here are the Loof Lirpa! videos:

When Dad got home, we told him about the Loof Lirpa and how it didn’t show up.  We wrote loof lirpa on a paper and had Esther read it in a mirror.  Finally, she got it!  It was cute.

Then she & Jared drew what they thought a Loof Lirpa bird would look like:

Being “bag” guys.  First, I thought they were saying bad guys, then it was clear what they meant.  lol

Don’t you love Esther’s outfit?  eeek.  She’s going to kill me one day for this.

Loof Lirpa!

Esther’s “Special Homework Assignment”:

Today is a special day.  It only comes once a year.  Today is the day the Loof Lirpa bird returns to our town.  Follow these directions very carefully to see the Loof Lirpa bird for yourself.

  1. Go outside and stand on something tall (some steps, a patio, a chair, whatever).
  2. Look into the sky and call “Loof Lirpa! Loof Loof Lirpa!  Loof Lirpa!” and he will appear.
  3. If he doesn’t, go back inside, look into a mirror and do the same thing.
  4. Next, draw a picture of the Loof Lirpa bird and bring it to school tomorrow!

She gave me the slip of paper this was typed on when I picked her up.  I laughed right out loud reading it!  I had a hard time not laughing the whole ride home.

I’ll share the results of the assignment after I figure out how to get the videos from the camera to the computer…
