Loof Lirpa! Update

On Sunday, I finally got the videos I’ve been taking on the camera onto the computer (thanks to half the family working on it, lol).  So, a month and a half later, here are the Loof Lirpa! videos:

When Dad got home, we told him about the Loof Lirpa and how it didn’t show up.  We wrote loof lirpa on a paper and had Esther read it in a mirror.  Finally, she got it!  It was cute.

Then she & Jared drew what they thought a Loof Lirpa bird would look like:

And the winner is…

debi is smart by you.

Debi is smart.

Debi’s anwers were right- but not necessarily for the right reasons.  Esther said the first picture might be a snack before dinner.  And she did think it was M for mat.

Esther's homework 1 sm     E's homework 2 sm

Sariah and Mom both agreed with me.  I thought they were having dessert.

Tom thought the snack/dessert picture should come second.  Dad cooks dinner, then sits and has fruit with family, then they eat dinner, then cleanup.

Jared thought the picture should go between eating dinner and cleaning up.  So, he must have thought that it was dessert, too.  But don’t waste time clearing the table before bringing dessert out!

I have no idea what the teacher’s answers are.  We’ve gotten both packets back by now, each with a star on the front.

Jessica, you have a teachers manual.  Any insight?  Did Esther even get it right?

Are You Smarter Than a 1st Grader?

How easily could you do Esther’s  homework?

Think so?  We’ll see.

Two samples:

This one is from last week:

Put the pictures in order.  Label them first, next, then, and last.  Okay.  Simple, right?  Check this.

And this one was yesterday’s:

Write the first letter for the word that names the picture.  There were 9 of them.  Okay, the first two were easy.

 HW word 1

And then there was this:

???

Um.  What???

Tom says that I am making it more complicated than it is.  So I asked him what order he thought the pictures should go in.  His answer was different than mine, which was different than Esther’s.

(The big discrepancy is the one where the family is sitting at the table, no dinner, just cups and a bowl of fruit.  You got that, right?)  Is there really a specific, obvious place for this picture in the story??  One that a six-year-old should easily recognize??

Three out of four people in our family answered differently.  …I wonder what Jared would say- hold on, let me ask him.

One minute later.  Well, Jared understood the directions much quicker than I expected.  And- he came up with a completely new, fourth answer.  No kidding.  (And there was no coaching here.  I actually expected a different answer from him.)

The things they send home.

What are your answers?

To make things simple, label the pictures using letters.  For instance, if you think the pictures are presented in the correct order, you would say: 1. A, 2. B, 3. C, 4. D.   And don’t forget to share what you think that thing is from yesterday’s homework.

The first person who gets this right (who answers the same as Esther- after all, she is the professional first grader!) will get some recognition.   (Hey, what did you think you were going to get?  A car dinousaur toy? (that’s what Jared says is a cool prize)  Sheesh.)
