Sitting at the nook table, eating our nacho lunch, my conversation with Jared went something like this:
Jared: When I’m grown up, and I’m an Uncle, I’m going to make this. I’m going to put in the cheese, and the meat, and the beans.
Me: When you’re an Uncle, are you going to make it for the kids when you babysit?
(Jared talks a lot about being an Uncle and babysitting kids. He also asks to have a babysitter contantly, but that’s another story.)
Jared: Yeah… When I’m an Uncle, and Esther’s a Mom, I’m going to babysit her kids. But how is she going to have kids?
I explained that she will grow up, then find someone that she likes that will be a good daddy, and they will get married, then they’ll have kids and be the Mom & Dad.
Jared: When Esther grows up, and gets married, Who is going to be her kids??
Me: I don’t know. We’ll meet them when they’re born.
Jared: Then you’ll be a Grandma.
Me: Yep.
Then he got excited with an idea.
Jared: Mom! When Esther has kids, and I’m Uncle Jared, and you’re… Grandma Mom, can we babysit Esther’s kids together?
I told him I would like that very much.
He talked a little more about him being an Uncle and Esther being a Mom.
Me: Did you know when you grow up, you can be an Uncle and a Daddy?
Jared: No. I can only be an Uncle.
Me: No, you can be both. You-
Jared: NO! I can only be an Uncle! (He was starting to get upset already, his eyes watering.)
Me: Why?
Jared: If I’m not a Daddy, and only an Uncle, I can live in Grandma’s house.
And that’s what it all comes down to.
