CPR Saturday 2010

Yesterday we went to the American Red Cross CPR Saturday.  All of my family in Sacramento came, too.  It was a fun, educational time.

We brought the kids with us again this year.  Early in the day, one of the volunteers tried to give us a hard time for bringing them.  I paid no attention to her.  Esther & Jared did great!  They were quiet and even paid attention during the lectures, and participated in the hands-on training.  It will still be years before they can do it right and get certified, but they are learning.  And all the rest of the volunteers were great with the kids.  They seemed to really like having them there.

I guess I wouldn’t suggest bringing your kids if you don’t think they would be cooperative for the whole 3 hours.  You wouldn’t want to disrupt any students.

My favorite thing is that we all got trained on how to use an AED this year.  (That’s the thing that shocks your heart to help it start working again.)  I had never learned how to use one.  Very cool!

Tom & I both got 100% on our written exams.  Everyone in the group got certified.  :)     It feels really good to be prepared.

Looking forward to CPR Saturday 2011!

CPR Saturday- be there or be square

I was afraid when I couldn’t find anything about CPR Saturday 2010 that it wouldn’t be happening in our area this year.   So I was happy to get an email Friday with the info.  The $10 classes will be held on March 20th in Rocklin.

I’ve been going to the Red Cross CPR Saturday training since I was a kid.  Our whole family would go each year.  For some reason, we kids looked forward to it.  Even kids can learn and be certified for CPR.  Well, I don’t know if kids can still get certified, but they can attend, and they can learn.

Last year, Jared & Esther came with us.  There were enough dummies that they each got their own.  It was so cute to see them going through the practice with the rest of the class.  Their compressions didn’t move the chest at all.  :)   But they did great!  The volunteers loved that they were there (at first I was a little nervous about bringing them) and gave them lots of praise and attention.

$10 is a ridiculously cheap price for the training you get.  Everyone working there are volunteers.  The registration fee is probably not even enough to cover the materials you receive.  The trainers are very good.  I’ve always been impressed with their knowledge and patience.  You spend 3-1/2 hours being trained, using dummies so you can practice and be tested on the skills.  Then, you take the test and leave with a card that certifies you to use CPR for one year.  Hey, you never know when you’ll be in a position to save someone’s life.

We’re signed up for the 11am class.  We’d love to see you there!

(register soon- classes often fill up!)
